Now in its second edition, this is a no-nonsense, easy-to-read guide to wealth creation in the South African financial and social environment. The author was fascinated as to why some people manage to hold on to, and grow, the money they work so hard to earn, and why some simply fail to show anything concrete for their endeavours while others are very comfortable after a working life in which they earned a modest income.

Dr Johan Dippenaar has interviewed hundreds of wealthy and comfortably-off people (and some who appear wealthy but who, in reality, are not) and his researches have lead to the creation of ten core 'habits' or 'practices' that are common to the financially successful. These are likened to the processes that transform a tiny, vulnerable seed into a towering, self-sustaining tree, and a provider of food and shelter. Small monetary seeds sown today can one day reward those who are patient and diligent by transforming into real money trees. And how many times have we wished there was one of those growing in our back garden?

Sow and Grow your own Money Tree (10 tips for creating personal financial abundance) has been written by a South African for South Africans. Essentially, it is a straight-forward, short, inexpensive, no frills guide to money management with the aim of encouraging people to create and maintain wealth. It includes nuggets of advice from the wealthy people that Dr Dippenaar interviewed and will appeal to people who are worried, like most of us, about money and retirement but who have just not been doing it right. It will also make an ideal gift for young people, as they grow up and start to value the meaning of money, as they leave home for the first time, or when they get their first job. The earlier these basic principles are instilled in them, the better for their long-term financial wellbeing.

Endorsements

'The desire for wealth and financial security is universal. So are the steps you need to take to achieve the goal. No matter where you live, the way to wealth is the same. Dr Dippenaar shows you the fundamental steps you need to take, and I encourage you to read and follow the lessons contained in these pages.'

Ric Edelman, author of the international bestseller Ordinary People, Extraordinary Wealth

'It has been said that, when you sit in the shade of a grand old oak tree, it would be good to remember that someone had the foresight to plant an acorn many years earlier. This is also true in the accumulation of wealth - it takes vision, it takes patience, and it takes courage because an oak tree is simply evidence of 'a nut that held its ground'. … In this book Johan has taken us on a journey based largely on his own experience and it is this personal touch that makes his contribution all the more useful and interesting.'

Professor Andy Andrews, former dean of the Wits business school, founder of the Investec Business School, now business thinker and sought-after lecturer at business schools worldwide

'This book encompasses the fundamentals of money management. Many points seem elementary but, on closer inspection, we find we all overlook the financial erosion that takes place in our daily lives. Society pressures and marketing have lead people to often living beyond their means. This is a well-written book for any age and provides stimulating food for thought. It can be used as a basis for people attempting to create their own financial freedom.'

Hennie le Roux, former Springbok rugby centre, now a successful businessman

Wonderful. I am inspired. Tomorrow I start fixing my mistakes. Well done.

I am in the process of reading this book, which I am finding very helpful, interesting and thought-provoking. I am presently doing research for my business and found the first chapter on setting Financial Goals particularly helpful. One of the skills that I will be teaching to my clients is goal setting, and it is astounding to me that research shows that only 3% of people actually set goals. In fact there is a whole psychology as to why people don't set goals, or if they do actually set goals, the numerous reasons why they don't achieve them. The Growth Plan at the end of every chapter is practical and motivating.  Thank you for taking the trouble to write a book full of valuable financial wisdom, insight and resources, that will give people direction in solving their financial problems, and will hopefully result in freedom from debt in the future.

Ek het vandag "Money Tree" deurgelees. Ek het die boek baie geniet en dit ondersteun wat ek reeds glo en begin doen het. ... Ek sal definitief "Money Tree" weer 'n paar keer lees. Daar is so min soortgelyke boeke wat deur Suid Afrikaners geskryf is. ... Ek hoop baie meer mense kry U boek in die hande. Sterkte Paul
