On 2 December 2007, two South Africans, Peter van Kets and Bill Godfrey, set off together with 22 other boats in the Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race from La Gomera, Canary Islands to Antigua, the Caribbean. The gruelling unsupported race covers 5438km of open ocean. Their rowing boat, Gquma Challenger, contained their food, equipment and desalinator for water. They were completely unsupported and did not see another boat until they reach their destination 50 days later. They were tested physically, emotionally and spiritually as they battled violent storms, fatigue, blisters, dehydration and loneliness in order to accomplish their dream which was to win the race and bring the trophy home to South Africa. Their journey is filled with humour, emotion and the triumph of the human spirit against tremendous odds as their story unfolds against the dramatically beautiful backdrop of the unforgiving Atlantic Ocean.
